Chiang Mai University (CMU) was founded in January 1964, under a Royal Charter granted by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. CMU is the first provincial university in Thailand, based on the government’s policy and the objectives of the northern people, as a center for academic and occupational knowledge in order to benefit the region and the country as a whole.
This university is a place for knowledge collection, studies, research, and knowledge transfer according to academic freedom based on morality and academic excellence, application and transfer, and arts and culture development.
Graduates from Chiang Mai University will emphasize self-training in order to become knowledgeable, thoughtful, and practical persons, as well as being able to manage themselves and other people, and work with ethics and social awareness.

Course and Programs

International and Bilingual Undergraduate Programs 

Chiang Mai University is now accepting applications for Chiang Mai University’s International and Bilingual Programs for the 2022 academic year.

The 12 international programs opened for admission are:
  •  Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Sustainability (HS)
  •  Bachelor of Arts in Social Science and Sustainable Development (SS)
  •  Bachelor of Arts in Thai as a Foreign Language (TFL)
  •  Bachelor of Economics (ECON)
  •  Bachelor of Engineering in Information Systems and Network Engineering (ISNE)
  •  Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  •  Bachelor of Nursing Science (NSC)
  •  Bachelor of Science in Digital Innovation (DIN)
  •  Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (ES)
  •  Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology (FST)
  •  Bachelor of Science in Integrated Design in Emerging Architecture (IDEA)
  •  Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering (SE)
The bilingual program opened for admission is:
  •  Bachelor of Science in Modern Management and Information Technology (MMIT)

Note: For MMIT, English is used as the medium of instruction in all courses.

Eligibility:

  1. Thai applicants who are currently studying in or have graduated with Mattayom Suksa 6 Certificate are eligible to apply for all programs except TFL, NSC and MMIT.
  2. Thai applicants who have graduated with a non-Mattayom Suksa 6 Certificate from an international school in Thailand or abroad or have a foreign high school equivalency certificate are eligible to apply for all programs except TFL.
  3. Non-Thai applicants who have graduated with a high school equivalency certificate are eligible to apply for all programs.

Chiang Mai University (CMU) is offering 200 Full Graduate Level Scholarships per year, an exciting opportunity to study at CMU for both Thai and international citizens who possess a high potential and who meet our requirements.

    • Doctoral Degree Scholarships: 100 (in total per year)
    • Master’s Degree Scholarships: 100 (in total per year)

Criteria and Documents Required for the Scholarship Application:

Doctoral Degree Level
    • Bachelor’s Degree Holder: GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent or
    • Master’s Degree Holder: GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent. In case the applicant has studied in a master’s degree program with thesis only, the applicant must have published good publication(s) or gained good results in their thesis work. (The publication should be published or accepted to be published by ISI, SCOPUS, IEEE, PubMed or by any other international publishers accepted by the Graduate School)
    • Research Plan provides a description, about 3-5 pages, explaining the research plans at Chiang Mai University. The scholarship is intended for original and publishable research (not for the compilation of textbooks or the writing of general surveys in the field that is studied. If possible, the applicant should contact in advance a professor at CMU in the field of intended to study to initiate the research plan together)
    • Certificate of English Language Proficiency dated within the last 2 years: IELTS or TOEFL only (IELTS score of 6.0, TOEFL score of 183 (CBT) or 79 (IBT), except for applicants who are a Native English Speakers from the countries referred to below)
    • Two recommendation letters, one of which must be from the current or latest applicant’s major advisor and the other should be from the person most familiar with his/her scholarly work (recommendations will receive a stronger consideration if they are from a professor at CMU who is expected to be his/her dissertation advisor).
Master’s Degree Level
    • Bachelor’s Degree Holder: GPA not less than 3.50 (based on the maximum of 4.00) or equivalent
    • An international or a regular graduate program while doing Master’s Thesis (Type 1 or 2) only is applicable. (Programs with Independent Study are not applicable).International programs or programs taught in English will be given a higher priority.
    • Research Outline for the program applied for. At least 2 pages detailing the research outline, in addition to previous research experiences and the research work presented at the meeting and/or published to date. Please explain (i) why you are interested in the particular research area; (ii) why you should be awarded the scholarship; and (iii) how you propose to carry out the study.
    • Certificate of English Language Proficiency dated within the last 2 years: IELTS or TOEFL only (IELTS score of 6.0, TOEFL score of 183 (CBT) or 79 (IBT), except for applicants who are Native English Speakers from the countries referred to below)
    • Two recommendation letters, one of which must be from the current or latest applicant’s major advisor and the other should be from the person most familiar with his/her scholarly work (recommendations will receive a stronger consideration if they are from a professor at CMU who is expected to be his/her master’s thesis advisor).
